The Tallahassee Police Department and Target Corporation is hosting a National Night Out event Tuesday night from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Kleman Plaza.
National Night Out is a positive community event that heightens crime and drug prevention awareness and generates support for and participation in local anti-crime programs. It also strengthens neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and sends a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
In 1984, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) hosted the first National Night Out. This event was held on the first Tuesday in August and has become a traditional annual event. The first year, 2.5 million Americans in 400 communities in 23 states participated. Now, participation is at 34 million people in over 10,000 communities from all 50 states.
TPD and other vendors will be on site to share home and business security information.
