MADISON, FL – The North Florida Community College Art Department invites the public to a reception on Tuesday, Sept. 4 from 12-1:30 p.m. to celebrate the Hardee Center for the Arts’ September exhibit “Constructed Identities and Staged Narratives.” The new exhibit features work by artists Craig Cully of Arizona and Steven Ramsey of Georgia.

Cully uses a wide range of technical and formal approaches and a variety of subject matter in his paintings to evoke the tension created by realization of unmet expectations and the potential for personal restitution. “My current body of work mines the schism caused by the intersection of my personal experiences and beliefs with that of our social and cultural ideals and expectations,” said Cully.

“My work is based in the narrative,” said Ramsey. “My inspiration includes personal experiences, social reflection and commentary. I strive to transcend these individualized element or source into an image or form that touches basic core truths and universal commonalities.”

The “Constructed Identities and Staged Narratives” exhibit is open now through Sept. 24. New exhibits are featured monthly at the Hardee Center for the Arts during NFCC’s fall and spring terms. Gallery hours are Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 8-9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, contact Lisa Thompson, NFCC art instructor and gallery coordinator, at (850) 973-1642, email ThompsonL@nfcc.edu or visit www.nfcc.edu/departments/academics/hardee-center-for-the-arts.
