The Thomas County Board of Commissioners approved Pelham Variety Works to start repairing the old clock tower as part of an extensive project to restore the historic building.
The courthouse refurbishment is scheduled to be complete by 2012---and community leaders say they couldn't be more excited.
Says Downtown Thomasville Director Karen Smith, "Time takes its toll ... and I just applaud the county for taking the initiative to step up and say, you know, we want to be part of the preservation efforts and save our courthouse, it's so important to our community."
The extensive project is being funded by a $6 million earmark from a Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax (SPLOST), voted into effect in 2006.
