Painting Paradise: Landscapes by Jennifer Clinard & Jill Quadagno
an exhibition at the Artport Gallery from September 12 - November 5, 2012
Plein Air painting refers to an approach of creating artwork outdoors, on location. This firsthand observation, allows artists like Jennifer Clinard and Jill Quadagno to capture atmospheric conditions, light, and the beautiful scenery that surrounds us in North Florida. These two artists have an essential spontaneity which they use to record and interpret the mood, mystery and uniqueness of our rapidly disappearing wild places.
Jennifer Clinard came to landscape painting from a thirty year career in theater and film. “I love exploring the landscapes of Florida. It gives me a sense of place and home. Outdoor painting demands both acute observation and my full attention. Although the product is a still image, the process feels more like an exquisite slow movie.”
Jill Quadagno has been drawing and painting for most of her life. Her paintings are not an exact representation of a particular scene, but rather reflect her desire to capture the sensation of light and color. “I paint many subjects but I’m most intrigued by the beauty of the north Florida landscape with its brilliant light, lush flora and picturesque coastline.
This exhibit celebrates the relationship between these talented artists and the "forgotten" coast. From the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge and the fishing village of Apalachicola to the unspoiled dunes on the barrier island of St. George, you’ll be transported to the landscapes that make North Florida so special.
A public reception for Painting Paradise is scheduled at the ArtPort Gallery for Friday, September 28th from 6:00-7:30pm. Guests are asked to park in long-term parking and present parking tickets at the gallery for complimentary validation.
The ArtPort Gallery itself is located in the Tallahassee Regional Airport, 3300 Capital Circle SW, and is open daily from 8:00 am until 11:30 pm. All exhibits in this space are free and open to the public.
