Tallahassee, FL - October 2, 2012
National Disability Employment Awareness Month is a national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many contributions of workers with disabilities.
According to a study conducted by the University of Massachusetts, 87% of adult consumers say they would prefer to give their business to companies that hire individuals with disabilities. In addition, Fortune Magazine found businesses that hire individuals with disabilities often see reduced turnover rates, decreased absenteeism, and increased productivity! Plus, by hiring an individual with a disability, a typical business can save nearly $3,200 while reaping critical workplace diversity and marketplace returns.
With these thoughts in mind, this month, in support of our disabled job seekers and employers hiring those with disabilities, WORKFORCE plus is hosting several events to honor Disability Employment and Awareness Month. The first event is a Community Resource Expo catering to persons with disabilities. The event will take place October 4 at the WORKFORCE plus office located at 2525 South Monroe Street. The focus of this event will be to connect jobseekers with community resources and advocates. The event is being held from 2 pm to 5 pm and is free and open to the public.
According the US Social Security Administration, there were 8,555 individuals receiving SSI in Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla Counties during 2011. With this number in mind, WORKFORCE plus, through their Disability Program Navigator, provides employment and training related guidance to job seekers with disabilities looking to return or join the workforce.
WORKFORCE plus has always been committed to providing inclusive opportunities and services for jobseekers within our communities. Please visit our website www.wfplus.org for more information, or LIKE us on Facebook at “WORKFORCE plus”.
