When you're on a budget, summer travel may be low on your priority list. Callaway Gardens is a budget-friendly getaway, that's both relaxing and adventurous.

About three hours north of Tallahassee, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians, is a nature inspired getaway .

Parks Sandifer said, "It's a beautiful place. Very kid friendly. Brings out the inner kid in us adults."

Founder Cason Callaway wanted to create a place that encouraged people to explore the great outdoors.

Wildlife is on display at the Birds of Prey Show. And you're sure to brush up against one of the thousands of butterflies located in the Cecil B. Butterfly Center.

Callaway Gardens offers outdoor activities like Tree Top Adventure. You can zip line through the forest or stroll down one of their many nature trails.

Claire Dentola visited as a kid and is now bringing her own children.

"Some of it's changed. We used to love the paddle boats and jet skiing. But they now have Aqua Island," she said.

Cool down at Robin Lake, the worlds largest inland, man-made beach. A floating playground will put your balance to the test or jet ski over 65 acres of water.

Catlin Henderson said, " We enjoyed the beach earlier today. We went and did the inflatable stuff and the obstacle course. That was really great. The tree top stuff is really fun too."

Everywhere you look, Callaway Gardens lives up to it's name. Mr. Cason's Vegetable garden is just one of the many fruits of their labor. It's named after the founder and includes a variety of flowers and herbs.

You're bound to smell the aroma of flowers on every acre of the Pine Mountain retreat. For more information on Callaway Gardens, click this link:

Maybe to you but not all. I have been to Callaway several times and really enjoy it. Sometimes a person just needs to get away. Heck with the extra cost.

and that my friend is agreeable I don't believe in all work no fun. But what can I do when my budget is constantly getting smaller...I'm not blaming anyone at all! just saying I would rather use an tank of gas wisely. There are small getaways around here that are suitable for now.

I agree, with that $50 for a tank of gas and another $60 for a family of 4, not to mention the cost of food, that can really add up.

Honestly this is an JOKE...I can't afford to use an WHOLE tank of gas for an trip and no way would I. My gas is used to get to and from work. and with the 50 dollar pay cut Scott has given for FRS aka(Balancing out the state budget)There is no way I'm thinking about fun when I'm thinking about SAVING!
