This Saturday, March 29, the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department (PRNA) will celebrate Opening Day 2014 for its youth recreational softball and baseball programs. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., PRNA will host a variety of activities at the Tom Brown Softball Complex.
Youth athletes ages 7-14 (as of July 17, 2014) can take part in the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run (PHR) competition. Registration for the PHR competition will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m., and participants can drop by any time from 9:30 a.m. to noon to take their turn. Each player averages about 15 minutes to complete all three events. For more information about the rules, visit mlb.com/phr.
Players can also take part in free clinics. Next Level and TCC Baseball will host the baseball clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on field 1, and a softball clinic will be held on field 2 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
There will also be an exciting exhibition coaches’ game at 11:30 a.m. on field 3. Watch your favorite coaches battle it out with sportsmanship and skill. There will be other activities including a rock climbing wall sponsored by the Florida National Guard, Chick-Fil-A giveaways, bounce houses, balloon animal making and a middle school game at 10 a.m. featuring North Florida Christian vs Trinity Catholic.
