TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
Florida A&M University (FAMU) Orchesis Contemporary Dance Theatre will present “Dancing a New Groove,” Friday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 29 at 3:30 p.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium.
The one-hour performance will include high-energy movement, diverse musical styles, a collaboration of step and dance and a Unity jam session with two step teams, Rampage and Attack, coming together in a performance. The performance, “By & By,” will be heavily influenced by New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina and Congo Square.
“Audience members will go away knowing that there is a high-quality of dance and performing arts at Florida A&M University,” said Artistic Director Gaynell Sherrod, FAMU’s director of dance studies. “Works will be done by young choreographers. Guests will see the richness in not only the African-American experience in Tallahassee, but also the dance culture in Tallahassee.”
The dance organization, started more than 65 years ago, aims to provide quality dance education and performances for FAMU students, emerging artists and the larger Tallahassee community.
General admission is $5. Tickets are available at FAMU Athletic Ticket Office. For more information, call Gaynell Sherrod at (850) 561-2737 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
