Press Release: City of Tallahassee
The Blair Stone Road Sewer Project is nearing its completion. Crews still need to complete installation of two portions of sewer line that stretch from the median across the northbound lanes. These pipes will provide future service for properties on the eastern side of the roadway.
To facilitate this work, Blair Stone Road will be completely shut down on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13. The closure will impact both northbound and southbound traffic from Orange Avenue to New Village Avenue, near the entrance to the Southwood Village shopping center. During the closure, access to the Southwood Village shopping center and other area businesses will remain open.
Southbound traffic on Blair Stone Road will continue being detoured at Orange Avenue. Motorists on Paul Russell Road will be detoured at Jim Lee Road to Orange Avenue. Northbound traffic on Blair Stone Road will be detoured at Capital Circle to Orange Avenue. Variable message boards are in place this week to alert motorists of the weekend closure.
Pending no unforeseen circumstances, the entire road will be reopened for both northbound and southbound traffic by Sunday night.
Following this weekend’s work, there could be temporary lanes closures while crews complete permanent striping and other remaining items. The entire project is expected to be completed by early November.
The purpose of this project is to provide sewer service to properties along Orange Avenue and Blair Stone Road and improve the City’s ability to manage the sewer system during service interruptions along Capital Circle.
During the project, new sewer pipes were installed along Orange Avenue from Jim Lee Road to Blair Stone Road and along Blair Stone Road from Orange Avenue to New Village Avenue. Sidewalk and curb repairs were completed at the intersection of Blair Stone Road and Capital Circle, and the southbound lanes of Blair Stone Road from Orange Avenue to Paul Russell Road have been resurfaced. This week, crews will be resurfacing the remainder of the southbound lanes within the project zone from Paul Russell Road to Capital Circle.
