Wakulla County, FL - A new start date and a possible new grant for a local community center is giving residents something to look forward to. The date for the Wakulla County Community Center has pushed back again, but WCTV got a sneek peak on how things are coming along in the brand new gym.
Wakulla County Commissioners say it will be state-of-the-art. The space is all paid for by a housing and urban development, or HUD grant. The county received 400,000 dollars to make it happen. Bruce Ashely, President of the County's coaltion for youth, says this is needed for the kids in the area.
Bruce Ashley, Wakulla Co. Coalition for Youth: "Enhance the lives of our kids and our families this will become a centerpiece for those kids of efforts in our community."
Lack of funds, pushed back start date until January. Ashley and other community members proposed ideas Monday at a workshop to help with the finances.
Bruce Ashley, Wakulla Co. Coalition for Youth: "On September 24th, we received contact that we would possibly receive some funding."
The county says this application can be a long-term commitment.
The county commission said they will vote on a finalized proposal at a commission meeting. They hope to get word on the state grant sometime in December.
