Tallahassee, Florida - July 1, 2011 -
StarMetro will begin offering new scratch-off fare cards. These new fare cards will come in seven day unlimited and seven day reduced fares. To validate these cards, customers will scratch off the silver foil to indicate which month and seven consecutive days in which the fare card is to be used.
“This new fare type allows the customer to activate their fare card – giving them more control,” said Ron Garrison, executive director of StarMetro. “With the scratch-off card, customers may purchase multiple cards at a time, but not validate those cards until they are ready to be used.”
Customers may purchase these scratch-off cards Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at community centers, including:
· Jack McLean Community Center, located at 700 Paul Russell Road;
· Lawrence-Gregory Community Center, located at 1115 Dade Street;
· LaVerne Payne Community Center, located at 450 W. Fourth Avenue;
· Smith-Williams Community Center, located at 2295 Pasco Street; and
· Jake Gaither Community Center, located at 801 Tanner Drive.
Additionally, customers may purchase scratch-off fare cards on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Jack McLean Community Center.
“With the new decentralized route structure launching on July 11, we needed to diversify the locations in which customers could purchase their fare cards,” said Garrison. “Currently, customers can only purchase fare cards at C.K. Steele and at our administrative offices on Appleyard Drive.”
The scratch-off tickets cost the same as StarMetro’s magstripe cards; therefore, the seven day unlimited scratch-off card costs $10, and the seven day reduced scratch-off fare card costs $7.50. Customers must have exact change when purchasing their fare card.
Reduced fare is for customers who are over the age of 60, 17 and younger, disabled and/or persons with a Medicare card. Customers who are disabled and/or have a Medicare card must first register at StarMetro’s administrative offices, located at 555 Appleyard Drive, before purchasing their scratch-off fare cards at local community centers.
StarMetro will not be liable for any tickets that are not properly validated or tickets that have been misplaced or stolen.
