Tallahassee, Florida - August 24, 2011 -

With an increase in traffic expected within the next week due to the start of the universities' fall semester, StarMetro will implement the following changes on Monday, August 29, in order to maintain route and transfer schedules.

"We expect traffic to really pick up next week as over 60,000 students descend on the Tallahassee roadways," said Ron Garrison, executive director for StarMetro. "In order for our buses to arrive on time in this heavy traffic, we needed to make a few improvements."

Route and schedule improvements are listed below by route.

Dogwood Route - Buses will run 40 minutes all day.
Red Hills route - Buses will run 40 minutes all day.
Saturday Azalea route - Buses will run 40 minutes all day, and the route will be rerouted to turn left from Capital Circle NW onto Commonwealth Blvd., loop through the cul de sac next to the Lowe's shopping center and turn right back onto Capital Circle NW.
Saturday Evergreen - Route will be rerouted to go into Governor's Square Mall.

These changes will be posted on Talgov.com/starmetro on Saturday, August 27, by 6 p.m.

As long as the bus comes on time, I don't much care what the headways are. If this change will mean that the buses can maintain schedules, then this is a good thing.

Still don't do me no good. I live on Meridian just north of I-10 and the bus doesn't come anywhere near my house.

So, I guess those of us who went summer semester didn't need those changes early on when we missed or were late for class because of FARCEMETRO messed-up routes and wait times. Boycott "FARCEMETRO !"

The new system has the potential to be leaps and bounds better than the old system: just halve the headways--the current-worst of 50 minutes would become a much more bearable 25 minutes. Nope...they've been going in the opposite direction. The new system started with routes A and C providing 10-minute headways on Tennessee St. during rush hour--now that's gone. Route S went from 45 minutes to 50. And the list goes on...

Be wary when Garrison calls something an "improvement." These changes on these routes mean longer waits between buses. We've lost sight of the promises from Garrison of shorter commuting times under the new bus system. The new system is devolving into a version of the old system that just doesn't work as well. Geez.

ANYTHING Ron Garrison says is suspect. People familiar with issues related to StarMetro know not to listen to anything he says since the man has no credibility. If the City Commission was really interested in doing something to improve StarMetro they could start by firing Ron Garrison!
