State Park to Host "Make and Take" Workshops During Tractor Show

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park will host the Antique Tractor & Engine Show on April 1 -3, 2011, where a series of specially created craft workshops will be offered in the Craft Square on Saturday, April 2, 2011.

There will be seven “Make and Take” workshops available in the Craft Square on April 2, during the Antique Tractor and Engine Show. The following is a schedule and a description of the classes offered.

Native American Artistry

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Cost: $8.00

Julie Norris will teach a fun class in which the participants will paint and decorate mini-gourds using horse hair and other items to create a tiny vase or bowl, inspired by Native American art.

Rag Doll Workshop

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Cost: $5.00

Cherie Willis will show how to construct an old fashioned rag doll. The finished product will be suitable to give to a young girl, use as a stocking stuffer or to keep. All materials are supplied.

Memory Bracelet

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Cost: $5.00

Ann Arey will help students create a beautiful memory wire bracelet. A variety of beads will be used. All supplies are furnished.

Coiled Bowls and Baskets

10:00 p.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Cost: $20

Jackie Kelly will teach how to make wrapped and coiled bowls and baskets. Students may also sew a coiled plate or set of coasters. If participants have a zig zag machine, please bring it, otherwise sharing is offered. Class is geared for both beginner and expert sewers. All supplies will be furnished.

Herbal Vinegar Workshop

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Cost: $5.00

Lei Lani Davis will discuss the benefits of herbs and how to use them in herbal vinegars. There will be a sampling of herbal vinegars and foods prepared with them. Soup, salad, sautéed chicken and a fruit dessert will be on the taste menu.

Healing and Pain Reduction

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Cost: $5.00

Betty Cave will engage students with fascinating techniques to pamper yourself by creating a healing bath soak that helps to reduce pain and inflammation.

Quilt Squares

1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Cost: $5.00

Cherie Willis will demonstrate how to hand piece a quilt. The pattern will be Grandma's Flower Garden. All supplies are furnished. Students will make a quilt square suitable to use to begin a quilt or to use as a pillow top.
