Tallahassee, FL -- July 25, 2011 --
Updated Schedule and Opportunities for Nighttime Youth Activities - After three successful parties this past weekend, the City is tweaking the schedule for the remaining Splash & Jam events to better serve the community. These changes were made based on feedback received from participant surveys at the events.
The most notable change is that the pool party originally scheduled for tomorrow, July 26, has been moved to this Saturday, July 30, to coincide with the House Party at the Walker-Ford Community Center.
This change will be seen at the other House Parties as well, as all the remaining events will be true Splash & Jam evenings with both House and Pool parties going on at once. This will give attendees more options for activities.
Also, all events will now take place from 8-11 p.m., and there will be no Splash and Jams on Tuesdays.
More than 500 youths attended last week's events, and staff has more entertaining and exciting surprises in store for the remaining events. Activities include music, late-night basketball, movies, games, swimming and more.
Developed by Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs (PRNA) and the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), the Splash & Jam events are the initial effort of a comprehensive strategic plan to address youth and young adult crime in the community. The Splash & Jam initiative is endorsed by the City Commission and features a variety of supervised, safe and fun activities.
Events take place at three PRNA facilities known for being actively involved in their respective communities: the Jack L. McLean Aquatics Center and Community Center, the Walker-Ford Community Center and pool, and the Lawrence-Gregory Community Center at Dade Street, including the Robinson-Trueblood Pool.
