Thomas County students will soon trade their books for some summer fun.

YMCA staff say it is important for people of all ages to learn how to swim and take extra precaution while in a pool or body of water.

Whether you're at the beach, pond or lake, staff say knowing how to swim could save your life or the life of someone else.

"Please don't swim alone. Always swim with an adult. Have a swimming buddy when you're swimming," says YMCA Branch Director Greer Cox.

Cox says the YMCA offers swimming lessons for all ages, even infants.

Tip #1. If you can't swim, DON'T go near the water. It's that simple.
