Madison Street, which is one block south of Broad Street, will be renovated, restored, and made more inviting for current and new businesses.

Thomasville residents say they look forward to the street's revamped image.

Says community member Paul Deese, "To expand the city downtown area would create more people, more parking -- because everybody has different shops -- more area, more income."

The project, formally known as the 'Madison Street Transportation Enhancement Project,' will begin in September.

It's funded by a one million dollar grant from the Department of Transportation, and will take about a year to complete.
