TFD Reminds Everyone to Change Smoke Detector Batteries this Weekend

Tallahassee, FL- The Tallahassee Fire Department would like to remind you that it is time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors this weekend when you adjust your clocks for daylight savings time.

A smoke alarm with a dead or missing battery is the same as having no smoke alarm at all.

The Tallahassee Fire Department has a program to provide low income residents with a battery operated smoke detector. Please contact the Tallahassee Fire Department at 891-6600 for more information.

Please follow these simple tips regarding your smoke detectors:

-Test smoke detectors monthly

-Install smoke alarms on every level of your home

-Many fatal fires begin late at night or early in the morning, so the U.S. Fire Administration recommends installing smoke alarms both inside and outside of sleeping areas

-The entire smoke alarm unit should be replaced every 8-10 years
