[UPDATE] 1-17 Noon --

Today the nation celebrates what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King's 82nd birthday.

For months people in our area have been planning events to honor Doctor King, but it seems the weather just didn't want to cooperate for one big event today.

The weather did rain on the parade of multiple events scheduled including a long standing tradition, the NAACP commemorative service and rally which was supposed to begin at the C.K. Steele Bus Plaza.

Stay with WCTV for updates.

The Tallahassee Martin Luther King Event has been canceled due to weather and will be rescheduled for sometime in February, according to organizer and Tallahassee MLK President Dale Landry.

The equality that we have should mean that we all have the equal chance to take advantage of everything this country has to offer. For the most part this is true. The problem is that certain people do not take advantage of the opportunities (education, job-training, and many others) and instead wait for a hand-out. This is not really a race thing because it extends across racial boundaries. People are lazy and expect things to be given to them just because they exist, and this is not what equality is about. I work hard for everything I have, and I should expect others to work equally as hard, then we can share equally in what this great country has to offer. When someone gets handed something for nothing, that makes me work harder for the things I need.

No one is simply created equal equality must be earned. The majority of the minority needs to become educated, not feel as if they owed something because of what happened 200 years ago when they weren't alive, and become civilized. If all that is accomplished equality may be considered.

We are all created equal...well, with the exception of "Country Boy". To the remarks that minorities are given everything and don't have to work: When was the last time a minority took a job in which you applied? Go out there and educate yourselves and then talk about a "minority" taking something in which you earned. Stop your crying, stop your hate, and stop putting satelite dishes on your single wide home. Also, stop buying smokes, DVD's and lottery tickets and having your poor, unfortunate children go without. Yeah, i said it!...and i'm a white guy. Difference is, i work and i'm always hustling!!

Black and Am Proud, No one mentioned skin color until you did. The issue with minority set asides is that the government creates a system where everyone is not treated equally.
