Tally Cyclists Getting Help from 'Bike Box'

Updated: Tue 11:02 PM, Oct 30, 2012

The first Bike Box in North Florida was installed in Tallahassee.

The big green road marking at the intersection of Call Street and Stadium drive is meant to provide a safe location for cyclists on the road and prevent collisions between motorists and cyclists.

"Cyclists can actually, at the red light, go into the bike box and get into position if they're going right or going straight they can stay on the right hand side. If they're going left, it gives them an opportunity to get to the left turn lane safely," said Misi Tuttle of the City of Tallahassee Communications Department.

Motorists who fail to stop at the white line before the bike box could face a fine of more than 150 dollars.
