17 year old, Leon High School student, Andi Taylor, is taking on the challenge of getting in shape and improving her overall health this summer. Taylor says "this is my mission going into my senior year, this is my last year of high school, I'm going to go into college, and I want to get to a happy healthy weight."

Andi, like many other teens fall victim to bad eating habits and inactivity which ultimately leads to weight gain. Nikki Taylor, Andi's mother, says "we knew that we somehow needed to begin an exercise program and try and balance everything out to put it all in to place for her so she could get where she needed to be and where she wanted to be and to be healthier."

As the school year ends, health experts say staying active during the summer can make all the difference.
According to Fit & Functional owner and founder, Sherman Rosier "if you are active throughout the school year and you don't do anything during the summertime, 3 months is a huge difference, your body starts to respond to what your actions are almost immediately, even after only a couple weeks if you haven't done any activity."

To improve your health, experts recommend eating 5 small meals a day, including plenty of fruits and vegetables. Holistic Nutrition Educator and Personal Trainer, Nigel Godfrey, says "you want to have a breakfast a light breakfast, you want to have a snack, you want to have a good lunch, lunch should probably be your heaviest meal, an afternoon snack and then dinner."

Andi's mom, Nikki admits healthier eating is not only helping her daughter but the whole family. She says they have "gone from whole milk, down to 2%, down to 1%, we haven't made the leap to skim milk just yet but we're trying to get there, lower fat butters, stuff like that, so we've tried to change a lot of things, whole wheat products and bread as well."

At the end of the day, Andi feels that although it's not easy, living healthy is worth it and admits "the way I feel afterwards, believe it or not, I'm tired, I'm sweaty, I feel like I've accomplished something, I feel happier."
