Leon County, FL - Trash collection in Leon County is going to get more expensive-- and residents are not happy.
Residents I've spoken with say they don't want the change-- and want to throw out their own trash.
Mike Peaey: "I can not afford to pay another 13 to 15 dollars a month for someone to pick up my garbage because I still have to go through the recycle.. And here I am on Tuesday morning, not Wednesday morning, it's going to make me go by their schedule."
County commissioners however, say their solution will help everyone.
Commissioners last month voted in favor of universal curbside trash collection. They say it will help save the county money in the long run, which will help them to upgrade several county services.
This means for the first time ever households will pay a curbside pick up fee, even If they don't want to. County officials estimate current customers would pay 73 dollars per year. New customers will pay 13 dollars per month or a little more than 150 dollars per year.
