The Oasis Center for Women and Girls is highlighting several local women who have rewritten history. It's sharing the stories of six trailblazers as part of women's history month.

WCTV's Triston Sanders is one of the six women chosen as a trailblazer this year 2011. She followed her dreams and worked her way to the top to become WCTV's first female news director.

"I think that truly you are as good as your skill set and your imagination and your work ethic. And women, fear not, you absolutely have a place in this community," said Sanders.

The other women on the trailblazing list range from a former city commissioner to legendary dance instructor. They are Doris Alston, Debbie Lightsey, Winefred NeSmith, Nancy Smith Fichter, and Lisa Sprague.

Triston and the other trailblazers will be honored at a ceremony on March 30th.
