September 13, 2012
Since Dining in the Dark is only 6 weeks away (on 11/4, 5:30pm at UCC), it is time to ask for your help with the popular raffles baskets!
Would you be willing to create a gift basket and donate it for the raffle? Or maybe a group you belong to would be willing to go in together to make a basket. It is a ton of fun to put a gift basket together and it is for a great cause – last year the raffle raised over $3,000 for the Lighthouse to buy supplies for people who are blind.
You might belong to any number of groups – a workplace, a class at school, neighborhood association, church group, social or civic group, professional association, even your family could be a considered a “group’! For example, maybe you have a book club that would be interested in helping. Each member could bring something for a “Book Basket” like several novels, a blank journal, gift certificate to bookstore(s), a book light, bookmark, book bag, pencils/pens, note cards, book ends, reading glasses, mug with coffee or tea to drink while reading, and snacks, all in a book crate (it doesn’t really have to be a basket – just a container.)
Below is a list of the different types of baskets we’d like – from past experience, these have been the most popular. Also a few have already been taken which are on the list with the volunteer’s name beside it. Please let me know what you think, and if you are willing to ask your group/class/club/family if they would take on a basket. Or – if you have a contact who might be willing to donate a gift related to any of the baskets below, that would be more than welcome, too! If yes – please also let me know which basket you want to do, to make sure we don’t get 20 chocolate baskets (although I personally wouldn’t mind that!)
We will need the baskets by Monday, October 15, so that I have time to inventory the baskets & list the items in Braille so those who are blind at the Dining in the Dark event have a way of “seeing” what is in the baskets.
TICKETS: Still need to get your tickets to the November 4th Dining in the Dark benefit?! Check it out on our website at: http://www.lighthousebigbend.org/ (Tickets are $60; Table for eight: $600; Table for ten: $700)
