The men say they've been on a dedicated fitness routine at the YMCA since late summer (2010) to tone up and shed pounds, all in the name of community safety.
Management at the fire house says it's surprising how many firefighters are hampered - or even killed - on the job each year from injuries that could have been prevented with exercise.
Says Fire Chief Bryan Croft, "Over 100 firefighters die every year, and two-thirds of those deaths are usually cardiac-related. So we're trying to cut down on that, and if we could just do something to start, you know, it could be a good thing for everybody."
Management says while there was some resistance at first, the firefighters quickly grew to love the routine once they started seeing results.
