Thomas County Utilities says they're offering Christmas tree recycling services that will turn fresh, undecorated Christmas trees into mulch for people's gardens.

City officials say this is the program's 10th year and its popularity keeps rising.

Thomasville Solid Waste Landfill Manager Nathaniel Tyler says when the program started a decade ago they mulched about 200 trees - now, he says they get between 700 and 1,000.

The program is part of the state-wide event "Bring One for the Chipper", an effort under the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the "Keep Georgia Beautiful" initiative to promote environmental conservation.

Thomasville Utilities says the trees will be mulched on Saturday (1/8) and anyone who donates a tree will get a sapling or packet of seeds to replant, while supplies last.

If you have a live tree you'd like to donate but cannot bring it to the recycling center, you can call Thomasville Utilities to schedule a pick-up from your residence.
