Jefferson County, Florida- August 22, 2012

The White House is honoring a local hero who served in World War II.

President Barack Obama has awarded 92-year-old Ernest Sneed with the Congressional Gold Medal.

Sneed, a Jefferson County resident, was a Montford Point Marine.

He's one of the oldest surviving black veteran in our area.

Sneed wasn't able to make it up to DC, but military officials here will present him the medal at a ceremony.

That will be Saturday at noon in the Jefferson County High School Cafeteria.

The event is open to the public.
