Workforce Plus Release: WORKFORCE plus receives award from the Department of Economic Opportunity
Tallahassee, FL - WORKFORCE plus, the workforce development board serving Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla counties, has recently been awarded $37,000 for their outstanding work with Veterans. WORKFORCE plus was chosen as the small category winning region for the Department of Economic Opportunity’s 2012 Veterans Incentive Awards Program after its exemplary work in providing employment services to Veterans during the past year.
The Department of Economics annually awards the grants to local workforce agencies in an effort to recognize outstanding efforts in delivering, training, and placement services for Veterans. The Veterans Incentive Award is split into three separate awards categorized by size of the workforce boards (small, medium and large).
Throughout the year, WORKFORCE plus holds events to assist Veterans with obtaining employment. Recently WORKFORCE plus hosted several events during the month of November to recognize Veterans during Hire a Hero Month. The first event hosted by WORKFORCE plus was a Hire a Hero Network event. At this event Veterans had the opportunity to network and learn from current professionals and employers about how to obtain employment in the 21st century.
In November 2012, WORKFORCE plus also conducted a job matching event called, “Hire a Hero, Hire a Vet- In the Spotlight.” This event had numerous employers come together and allowed jobseekers three minutes to “sell” themselves within a group interview. Jobseekers were able to obtain jobs and second interviews by using the skills they learned during the Hire a Hero Network event. Florida Veterans are 11 percent of the state population and the second largest per capita Veteran population in the nation.
“We are committed here at WORKFORCE plus to our mission of providing Veterans with resources and services to succeed in finding employment,” said Kimberly A. Moore, CEO of WORKFORCE plus. “Our Veterans program is designed to help Veterans obtain the job search skills needed to obtain employment within our three counties of Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla.”
Many workshops and programs are offered to assist Veterans such as: Job Search Assistance, Career Planning and Counseling, Interviewing Skills Training, Job Fairs, and so much more.
