TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -
The Florida A&M University (FAMU) Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery has created a platform for aspiring student-artists at FAMU, Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College in its 4th Annual Student Art Competition and Exhibition. Students have until Friday, March 25 at 4 p.m. to submit their application, registration fee and art.
The purpose of the competition is to give all students - not just art majors - an opportunity to be recognized for their artwork. Artists can submit up to five original 2D or 3D works and are encouraged to be ready for professional presentation.
It is an all media competition that encourages individuals to submit a diverse selection of artwork including photography, digital art, assemblage and new media.
"I think it's important for people to participate because there are not a lot of local opportunities for visual artists to win money for their work as well as the opportunity to have their work exhibited in a professional art gallery," said Aja Roache, visiting assistant professor and art management coordinator at the Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery. "It's a great resume builder for those interested in going into an art field too."
The artwork is scheduled to be on exhibit from April 8 through April 29 in the Foster-Tanner Art Gallery and will be judged by Eluster Richardson, a local artist. First place prize is $150, second place $75 and third $50. Also, there will be three honorable mentions recognized by having work published in the 2012 Student Art Calendar.
Participants are required to complete an application including a non-refundable $10 fee. For more information, contact Aja Roache at email@example.com or 599-8755.
