Tallahassee, FL - The fourth annual "A Night at the Oscars" party and fundraiser celebrating the film industry and its luminaries will boast a special emcee this year. "The Dude" will host the event at The Paradigm Restaurant in Tallahassee on Sunday, Feb. 27.
The bathrobe-wearing, unshaven, bowling, renegade hero portrayed by Oscar winner Jeff Bridges in the Coen brothers' cult classic film The Big Lebowski is based on the legendary real life dude, Jeff Dowd. Dowd, a film producer and promoter, and co-founder of the Sundance Institute, has consulted on the marketing or been a producer's representative of such diverse films as Blood Simple, The Black Stallion, Chariots of Fire, The Grey Fox, Gandhi, War Games, Hoosiers, Hearts and Minds, Desperately Seeking Susan, and Kissing Jessica Stein.
Dowd will participate as an honored guest of the FSU College of Motion Picture Arts, better known as The Film School, in conjunction with his work with film students. The funding for visits such as Dowd's and for other Hollywood professionals who help enhance students' educations is made possible by the generous contributions of donors and supporters who attend events such as the "A Night at the Oscars" party and fundraiser.
The Academy Awards broadcast will be projected onto a giant overhead screen while guests enjoy a silent auction of Hollywood memorabilia, an academy trivia quiz with lots of prizes, a red carpet photo and an Oscar pool to test their powers of prognostication. (Past winners have won dinner for two at Food Glorious Food). Those who choose to buy a VIP early entry ticket get an early start on bidding, an open beer and wine bar for the red carpet hour and a goodie bag of free gifts.
The event is organized by The Film School Producers Guild, a community support organization.
The doors open at 7 p.m. for VIP Advance Admission, and 8 p.m. for General Admission. For tickets, go to http://tickets.fsu.edu. For more information about the event visit http://film.fsu.edu
