Tallahassee, Fla. -Celebrations of Earth Day at the Capitol and throughout the world should remind all legislators of Florida's need to develop a robust energy policy. In her letter to Governor Rick Scott last week, Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda urged the Governor to consider ideas that merge the opportunity to strengthen Florida's energy policy and create jobs. "We need to capitalize on this opportunity to create a mutually beneficial relationship between the wealth of Florida's natural resources and the diversity of our workforce, specifically in construction & engineering industries," Rep. Rehwinkel Vasilinda said.
"In my letter to Governor Scott I included a variety of proposals such
as a Public Benefits Fund, to establish a dedicated source of revenue
for investment purposes, the creation of an Energy Commission to pay an elevated level of attention towards energy initiatives, and the Clean Energy Congress's proposals from June 2010," said Rep. Rehwinkel Vasilinda.
"Florida has a responsibility to create jobs, move away from oil
dependency and begin the chapter on energy security and sustainability. More importantly, Florida has an opportunity to evolve and become the future of renewable energy policy for the rest of the nation," she said.
