Tallahassee, Florida- August 20, 2012

Thousands of Leon County students headed back to class today for their first day of school. Besides a new school year, with new teachers, and new classes- they may also notice some new, healthier food options in the cafeteria as well.

Michelle Obama has been spearheading a federal campaign for healthy eating. Obesity is an issue in Georgia, where they rank second highest in the nation for childhood obesity. There is a big push all over, for healthier eating and Leon schools are taking part.

New statewide and federal initiatives are looking to cut out sweets and add more fruits and veggies- four to five servings of them a week. Also, this summer we found out sugary sodas will be found less often on school grounds.
