Leon County Schools Press Release:
Superintendent Jackie Pons visited Sabal Palm Elementary today to surprise a well deserving individual for years of hard work and dedication. Surrounded by a group of supporters and well wishers Mr. Pons recognized Mr. Palanski Hayes as the 2010 School Employee of the Year (SREY).
“It is an honor to be here today to inform Mr. Hayes that he is the district’s outstanding school related employee this year,” said Superintendent Pons. “We have some of the best employees in the state, and Mr. Hayes is yet another example of someone who goes above and beyond when it comes to putting kids first in Leon County.”
Mr. Palanski is the Director of the Leadership Enrichment and Academic Project (LEAP) After School Program at Sabal Palm. His program teaches at-risk students academic skills and builds character through structure, discipline and care. He has developed an environment of high expectations where only his students’ best efforts are acceptable.
“Mr. Hayes accepts responsibility squarely and always goes that extra mile with the good of our school in mind,” said Principal Ann Johnson. “It doesn’t matter who needs help, Pal is always there to help.”
Mr. Hayes’ LEAP students have performed for the Harlem Globe Trotters, FSU Basketball games, Downtown-Get-Downs, MLK Day events & FAMU events.
Mr. Hayes was chosen as one of the district’s five finalists after first being recognized as Sabal Palm’s SREY. He was then interviewed by a selection committee made up of administrators, staff and community leaders who selected him as this year’s recipient. As this year’s winner, he will receive a plaque of distinction at the annual Leon County ‘Night of Celebration’. He will move on from here to compete at the state level School Related Employee of Year to be announced in March.
