Tallahassee, Florida --

FSU Police are teaching new Seminoles how to stay safe on campus.

FSU PD is meeting with parents and students who are in town for orientation.

They want to be sure they are aware of the school's blue lights and text alerts and other safety measures.

FSU PD says crime rates are holding steady.

Major Jim Russell said, "It seems to be holding steady despite an influx of greater population and greater responsibility, frankly, for the police department. Obviously we'd like to see all of the numbers to be zero so we keep striving for that but, no real upticks that we can see as of yet."

The police department wants students to be prepared, and to know what to do in case of emergency.
