Tallahassee, Florida- July 10, 2012

The Leon County School Board honors a local Tallahassee man for his major accomplishment.

Brent Hartsfield was born and raised in the school district as a kid. This year, Hartsfield was named national Big Brother of the Year for his work in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

Tuesday evening the school board formerly recognized his accomplishments. Hartsfield recently had the chance to meet President Barack Obama to congratulate him on his award.

Board members say the school district is proud of the good he's done in the community.

"To be brother of the year is a great honor," Hartsfield said. "I'm childhood friends with [Leon County Schools superintendent Jackie Pons] so it's just a great experience for me."

"Well Brent has had a tremendous role on my life," said Hartsfield's little brother Delaitre Hollinger. "I definitely would not be doing what I'm doing now in the community if it weren't for Brent."
