Leon County Schools Seek Volunteers for Struggling Readers

Tallahassee, Florida- July 12, 2012

Eleven Leon County Schools are looking for volunteers willing to read with youngsters one on one. They'd be paired with struggling readers in Kindergarten through second grade. The United Way is asking folks for one hour a week for 25 weeks.

"A child's reading skills in elementary school can increase the probability of a high school graduation. So early intervention with a child during their elementary school years is critically important."

The Reading Pals program is being funded by a three year $225,000 grant to the United Way of the Big Bend. Go to our web site, wctv.tv and find an easy link to sign up.
