TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- WCTV and Werner Hyundai are teaming up to highlight local foster children and foster parents.
This is Yvonne's story.
Maclay Gardens is a quiet setting for this 17-year-old, but if you know Yvonne, you know she’s anything but quiet.
"When she's in a room you know that she's there," says Laquita.
Laquita is Yvonne’s case manager. She’s seen her grow into a delightful young woman.
"She's able to just be herself," says Laquita.
"I try my best to have a positive attitude," says Yvonne.
Yvonne has kept a positive attitude despite a childhood full of “bumps” as she calls them.
"I've been in and out since I was 4,” recalls Yvonne. “I was 4 when I first got into the system. I was adopted about 8 years ago, then we hit some bumpy patches, so now I’m back in it."
Her wish for the future is simple.
"I want a stable type of future. I don't want it to continue to be bumpy,” says Yvonne. “I’m ready to settle down where everything is normal."
She hopes for stability in a forever family, being that she is just one year shy of aging out of foster care. And she has a message for other foster children going through a struggle.
"Don't give up. They can go through it. I’ve gone through it, other people have gone through it,” says Yvonne. “So if they can make it, they can too."
