BROOKS CO., Ga. (WCTV) -- A leading broiler breeding company is investing $18 million in Brooks County.
Aviagen is making Quitman home to their new hatching facility.
The eggs will be delivered there to hatch, then within 24 hours, shipped across country.
By next year, their facility will become the first tenant in Brooks County's 250-acre Industrial Park, off of Madison Highway.
The County Development Authority says the best part is 100 more local jobs.
"The effect that it's going to have on the amount of people who are able to spend their money here in Brooks County is tremendous," says Tiffany Holmes, Development Authority Director.
She says more than 4,000 residents leave the community for work each day.
"My goal is to create jobs so that kids that grow up here, can work here, and stay here. We can increase our population along the way. the only way we can do that is by bringing industry in here," says Buddy Holwell, Development Authority Chairman.
They say one of the reason the company chose Quitman was because of residents familiarity with the agriculture industry and this line of work.
Residents declined to talk on camera, but say they're excited for the jobs.
They're also curious about the increase in truck traffic.
The Development Authority says construction will break ground in the upcoming weeks.
