EATON RAPIDS, Mich. (WILX) -- "Emily had a very loud, contagious laugh," Shannon Murray said. “In the pictures of her family, you'll see they just truly had that genuine, you know, icky love."
Murray is remembering her friend since high school, Emily Malone. Emily, her husband Sean and two daughters, Erin and Lauren, were involved in a rollover crash in Michigan on January 7.
Erin died in the crash and Sean died a few days later. Emily died Monday morning. Eleven-year-old Lauren is uninjured, but now she's left on her own.
"It is tragic,” Murray said. “It was tragic after tragedy after tragedy. For a little girl to lose each member of her family over the course of eight days is... I don't know..."
Murray is at a loss for words, but she's full of memories of the Malone family. She says Sean and Emily were high school sweethearts.
"They formed pretty much an instant connection. They had that mushy, mushy la-la love," Murray said.
As for Erin, she played basketball at Eaton Rapids High School in Michigan. Murray made decals and stickers with a basketball and wings to honor her and the Malone family. The decals are on sale and all of the money made is going straight to the Malone family. One place you can find the decals is Mark's Place in Eaton Rapids.
"There was a girl that I went to high school with came in this morning and wanted to support the family,” Mark Mcgee said. “And she said I've got $100 and I'm going to buy as many as I can."
Together through the decals and other methods, the community has raised thousands of dollars for Lauren and her family in this time of need.
“I think that's amazing,” Murray said. “That's going to be the only thing that pulls a family through. In their dark times, they can see they're surrounded by love and support."
