DESTIN, Fla. (WJHG) -- Allegiant airlines announced Tuesday morning plans to make an aircraft base at Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS). This base will bring with it 65 new, high-wage jobs this year.
Allegiant officials say VPS will become the airline's 14th year-round aircraft base.
As well as building a base and bringing jobs, the airline is also bringing in new service to five cities. Those flights include Bentonville, Arkansas (XNA), Concord, North Carolina (USA), Lexington, Kentucky (LEX), Evansville, Indiana (EVV), and Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina (RDU). These routes will fly twice a week.
Over the next five years, Allegiant officials expect to bring in about $418 million in tourism revenue.
