TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Three men are facing murder charges in the fatal shooting of a teen on Putnam Drive in September.

Suspects Reginald Brown, 21, Davaris Dawes, 18, and Demarlis Martin, 19, were arrested over the weekend.

The September 19th shooting killed 19-year-old Keives Brooks and injured two other teens.

According to court documents, the motive for the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation that the victims and one of the suspects had earlier in the day.

In a group text message on the afternoon of the shooting, the suspects allegedly discussed waiting for the victims to arrive at their apartment on Putnam Drive in order to retaliate.

Brown, Dawes and Martin are all charged with premeditated murder and two counts of attempted murder.

All three suspects are being held in the Leon County Detention Facility without bond.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Tuesday night was a very active scene on the 400 block of Putnam Drive, as police responded to reports of gunshots.

"I heard about 6-7 gunshots.”

"I didn’t know that he had been shot at the time and all of a sudden I seen all of the cops.”

"It was crazy. I didn't know that it was so wild out here like that.”

Wednesday, it was a completely different look, but the feelings among residents remain the same. Many of them say they were shocked, to learn 19-year-old Keives Brooks died in the shooting.

"My heart goes out to the family, because you can't bring a life back. I don't care what anyone says, a life is more valuable than gun violence," said Katie Lynn Jordan, a resident living just across the street.

There have been at least twenty shootings in Tallahassee since June. Seven people have died. Two of the shootings that have happened in the last two weeks, have been less than one mile from FAMU’s campus.

Campus Police Chief Terence Calloway explained that no matter what's going on outside, their goal is to keep students safe while on the inside.

“As a parent they are more concerned with how safe their child is while walking from one building to the next,” Calloway explained.

Tyler Gathers is a student in Tallahassee. He said he recently moved to an apartment complex on Putnam Dr. He said he knew it would be different living off campus, but he didn’t expect this.

"My mom, told me when I first moved, this is not campus and to be careful. This is the real world, and I know this is the real world, but dang not that real,” Gathers said.

Two other people were injured in that shooting. The Tallahassee Police Department is still investigating.
