CBS Sports: Orange Bowl second best bowl game this season

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- In a season that featured a lot of ups and downs for Florida State football, it ended with a bang on New Year's Eve eve.

The Seminoles won a thriller against sixth-ranked Michigan in the Orange Bowl. The same FSU football team that began the season 5-3, including a 63-20 loss to Louisville, one of the program's worst losses in history.

Florida State rallied to win their last four games, including a 31-13 rout of rival-Florida.

The Orange Bowl win wasn't easy. Michigan took the lead late, but FSU was able to hang on at the end, in similar fashion to their season as a whole.

CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli says that the game was the second best of bowl season, only behind the classic that was USC's slim victory over Penn State in the Rose Bowl.

Fornelli wrote of the Orange Bowl:

This game was just fantastic. It featured Michigan coming back from a deficit with all the excitement taking place in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines even took a three-point lead with less than two minutes to play, but Florida State immediately responded with a touchdown following a great -- and ill-advised -- kick return to set them up with great field position. It was like a perfect script for a football game. It hooked you in to the plot early, built up the tension as the story progressed, and then reeled you in for the ridiculously entertaining finish.

Fornelli's full ranking of the 2016/17 bowl season is below (Florida State, Florida and Georgia's games listed in bold):
