TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A former coach and hall monitor at Chiles High School has been charged with sexual battery following accusations of engaging in sex with a 16-year-old student on school grounds.

22-year-old Derrall Je'Shaun Howard is charged with solicitation of sexual activity by familial or custodial authority and sexual battery while in a position of familial or custodial authority.

In November 2016, a student at the school told the administration that another student had admitted to having sex with Howard in his office in the gymnasium. Howard coaches football and girl's basketball.

The victim told authorities that she had sex with Howard "one time in his office". She said it had happened sometime in November before Thanksgiving Break.

The victim said the first time she "really met" Howard, she was called into his office with two other girls. She said Howard was "looking at her hard", and after the two girls left, Howard said, "I know you want to have sex with me", and "all she has to do is say so".

The following day, the victim and a friend went to Howard's office to hangout before school. The victim says once she and Howard were alone, Howard forced her to have sex with him.

She says she told Howard to stop and that she had to go to class. The victim says Howard let her up after a short time, and told her that she "couldn't tell anyone because he would go to jail, and lose his job and his daughter".

Several witnesses said Howard continued to communicate with the victim through the cell phone app Snapchat, but Howard denied any contact. Witnesses also said that Howard seemed to believe that people were beginning to talk about him and the victim, and encouraged her to tell others that it never happened.

Authorities at the Leon County Sheriff's Office asked Howard if he had ever had sex or masturbated in his office, and he said no. Deputies collected cheek swabs from Howard in December to compare to potential DNA found in his office.

Authorities found sperm matching Howard's DNA in two separate locations in his office.

Following an investigation by LCSO, Howard was arrested and booked into the Leon County Jail on July 2.

John Hunkiar, the Chief of Safety, Security and Professional Practices for Leon County Schools, said in a statement, "Leon County Schools has been notified of the arrest of former Chiles High School employee Derrall Howard. In early December 2016, after an allegation of sexual misconduct with a student, Mr. Howard was terminated from his position as a hall monitor and part-time coach. The safety of our schools is our highest priority and we thank the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for their diligence in this matter."

Howard made his first appearance on Monday. Bond has been set at $15,000 for each charge.

Howard's attorney denied a request for comment.
