TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A two-time World Series champion is helping to refurbish a local field for youngsters to play on.
David Ross is teaming up with Scotts and Major League Baseball to refurbish the field at Capital Park. The grand re-opening was held Tuesday night.
The Tallahassee native chose the location, and a grant helped pay for it.
Ross says the goal is to make sure every kid who wants a chance to play baseball has a place to do it.
"They're (Scotts and MLB) refurbishing facilities in underprivileged areas and this being the one that I grew up on is even more of a bonus for me. Anytime you can help generate awareness to the game and bring more kids it's always great," said Ross.
Some of the upgrades include new turf and regrading the field. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, Ross participated in a baseball clinic for little leaguers.
