TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Authorities say a man was found dead with an apparent self-inflicted wound following a standoff situation in Tallahassee.

Deputies with the Leon County Sheriff's Office responded to a duplex on Fairlane Road and Botany Drive Wednesday afternoon after receiving reports of a suicidal man barricading himself inside.

Deputies say the man was in violation of his probation for a domestic violence injunction. Authorities say they were attempting to serve him a warrant around the same time calls started to come in.

Authorities say the man was not responding to commands from deputies. Hostage negotiators, the bomb squad and the SWAT team were called in to assist.

Officials also evacuated nearby residences in an abundance of caution.

Around 4:30 p.m., crews began to clear the scene and the chief investigator confirmed the man was found dead inside the home with a self-inflicted wound.

Officials believe the man was the only person inside the home at the time.

WCTV is choosing not to identify the man due to the circumstances of his death.

Godby High School, located across the street from the scene, had a previously-scheduled early release day and was not impacted by the situation. School officials say students had already left for the day by the time the standoff began.

Surrounding roads were closed for several hours. Officials say an investigation is ongoing.
