TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- WCTV Sports Director Asher Wildman has learned that FAMU DRS has named Cedric Jones its next head football coach.

Jones is a DRS alum, and has spent the last two years as the head coach of John Paul The II in Tallahassee. Thursday night FAMU DRS Superintendent Kirk Gavin presented Jones to the school board for approval.

In two years as coach of the Panthers, Jones has gone 11-8 and reached the playoffs in both his years at the school.

FAMU DRS is now on their third coach in three years.

Two years ago Ira Reynolds was not brought back after a winless 2015 season, and this past year the Baby Rattlers won just one game with first year head coach Rontarrious Robinson.

JPII will now begin a search for a new head coach to replace Jones.
