FHP: Perry man killed after truck rolls on top of him

TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Highway Patrol says a man has died after a vehicle he was working on rolled on top of him Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at 11 a.m. in the 18000 block of U.S. Highway 98 near Perry.

According to FHP, the man was lying on his back underneath a Chevrolet 3500 truck with the engine running, attempting to resolve a mechanical malfunction. At some point, the truck became mobile and the vehicle rolled backwards on top of him. A bystander was able to push the truck forward off of the man.

The man suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Doctors Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Troopers have identified the man as 78-year-old John A. Butler, of Perry.

FHP was assisted at the scene by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and Taylor County EMS/Fire Rescue.
