VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) – A new place to grab a brew is coming soon to downtown, and it's unlike any other in the region.
The South Georgia Beer Company, the first craft brewery in South Georgia, broke ground Tuesday.
The company co-founder and Director of Business Development, Chris Jones, said it could be a lot of pressure, but it's also a great opportunity to show Valdosta what craft breweries are and what they're all about. They also want to show community members why the product is worth the extra few dollars. Jones called it having a "Georgia twist" on every beer.
"We want to execute beers to style, so the traditional places that beer came from, the different beers that we brew, we want to brew those as authentically as we can, however using Georgia ingredients. So if there's an ingredient that we can source in Lake Park, or Morven or Valdosa, we're going to use that ingredient," Jones said.
Brewery founders plan to open late July or early August. They are also planning a big Oktoberfest kickoff event for this fall.
