TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Grey skies and rain clouds weren’t the only thing dampening the mood on Wednesday in the Capital City.
Florida State fans are still reeling from their in-state rival’s big College World Series win.
Florida State student Cory Kuchta believes that Florida winning was even worse than being knocked out themselves.
“It was heartbreaking when Florida State lost,” Kuchta said, “But when Florida won you just kind of got a bad feeling in your gut.”
Some FSU fans are bracing themselves for the onslaught of trash talk from their Gator friends.
“It hurt, but the worst part is knowing that my dad is going to rub it in my face a little bit,” said FSU student Ava Cheffer.
Despite being in enemy territory, some Gator fans aren’t hiding their feelings. University of Florida student Graham Boone wore his orange and blue with pride today.
“For the past few years, Florida State has beaten us in football,” Boone said, “So it feels good to have this.”
Some divided households have also come out in full force today. University of Florida grad Laura Johnson and her boyfriend, and FSU grad, Cole Goslee joked around about the win today.
“It’s not out of the ordinary for the Gators to win, we’re winners,” Johnson said.
“It is these past few years though,” Goslee joked back.
The friendly rivalry between the two schools is a long standing tradition in the state of Florida. The two teams will meet next on the football field on Saturday Nov. 25th, in Gainesville.
