TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A former Tallahassee elementary school guidance counselor is going to prison for lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor.

A judge Friday sentenced 30-year-old Kathgret Rentz to 20 years in prison, followed by 10 years probation.

Prior to her arrest in August 2016, Rentz had been a guidance counselor at Chaires Elementary School in Tallahassee.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a witness reported inappropriate behavior between the victim and Rentz at a swimming pool in her apartment complex.

The witness told police she saw the two "caressing, kissing and fondling each other in inappropriate places." The victim was under 16 years old.

Investigators found evidence of a relationship between Rentz and the minor on the defendant's cell phone, including hundreds of text messages over a span of two months, and several photos of the two kissing, according to court records.
