Cedric Martin, Jr. (Colquitt County Sheriff's Dept.)
MOULTRIE, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested 17-year-old Cedric Martin, Jr. in the death of his two-month-old daughter, Zoee Martin.
"Cedric did not do anything to that baby," said, Shirley Ward, Martin's aunt.
She says Zoee was already injured before being with her dad last Thursday.
"Like Cedric said, they came home and the baby was crying. Cedric said they came in the house and laid the baby down. Cedric said he had no idea what had done happened to that baby. He said, mama, I didn't do it. He said that's only a baby," Ward, said.
Martin is charged with murder and cruelty to children.
The GBI says Zoee had blunt force trauma to her head and body.
She was taken to the hospital Thursday and died Sunday.
Area resident Janice Bryant said, "Can you imagine something that came into the world that didn't ask to be here, and as young as the baby is, it's just a tragedy."
Martin's neighbor, Tracy, calls Cedric a well-rounded football player at Colquitt County High School with a lot of friends.
She's now concerned about his future. But, more saddened the baby won't have one. "She won't even get a chance to even have a life or to know where her life will go from here. It's heartbreaking for the baby," Tracy said.
"Ain't no way in the world he did something to that baby. Never! I bet my life on it. He didn't do it," Ward said.
Martin was denied bond. The GBI says this is still an open investigation.
